Before your next international trip...
-
Check your passport validity.
-
When will your passport expire? Most countries require you to have a minimum of three months validity remaining, and many require that you have at least six months validity.
-
-
Check your passport's condition.
-
Is your passport's cover loose? Are any pages torn? A damaged passport is not valid for travel.
-
-
Check if you have blank visa pages.
-
You'll need at least one blank passport page marked "visas" for every country you'll visit. If you need a visa, you'll need at least two completely blank pages.
-
-
Make a copy of your passport.
-
If your passport is lost or stolen, having a copy will make it easier to get a replacement. Take one copy with you when you travel, and leave another at home with someone you trust.
-
-
Research health concerns for your destination.
-
Find out if you need any vaccines for your trip and review a "healthy traveler" packing list at www.cdc.gov/travel.
-
-
Register your trip with the US State Department.
-
In just a few minutes, you can sign up for the Safe Traveler Enrollment Program online at step.state.gov. This will let the US Embassy easily help you in an emergency.
